Break Open” is The Zen Engines‘ third release in five years, following previous releases “Obrigado,” (2012) and “Everything” (2014). It spans such topics as healing from chronic illness, spiritual awakening, and journeys into the unknown. The musical range is much wider than past releases, spanning from heavy rock tunes to acoustic ballads… and with a Christmas song thrown in. The instrumentation features everything from electric guitars, bass and drums… to gongs, singing bowls, ektaras, cellos, violins, trumpets, french horns, and shruti boxes.

As with his past releases, songwriter Gregg Kirk has received these melodies and lyrics from a source outside himself. Call it channeled music or divine inspiration, but each of these tunes is aimed to heal and/or awaken a place within you to facilitate your own spiritual growth.

This album was produced by Gregg Kirk and mixed and mastered by Phil Nicolo at Studio 4 in Conshohocken, PA. Cover photo by Deny Howeth.
